MarketWATCH Muskoka: 16 May 2018

This is it! May 2-4. The first long weekend of the season. Our summer friends are returning. Cottages will be opened, BBQ’s heated up and firepits ignited for the first batch of s’mores. Our summer ritual begins.

For generations Canadians have made their way ‘to the lake’ as a way to relax, to enjoy the great land we call home and to renew the ties that bind. For many,THE COTTAGE is a touchstone that transcends just about everything else.

Last night we attended what we call BIFF (every two weeks in Bracebridge from September to May an independent film is screened. Although it’s called Spinning Reels, we think if it as BIFF). Sitting beside us was a couple we’ve known for 15 years. His cottage has been in the family for 70 years. Two rows ahead of us another couple whose connection to theirs goes back to 1880. In front of them, a couple who have a local road named for their family home in Milford Bay from 1871.

Whether they’re here year round (as in the case of the family from 1871) or summer residents (the other two) lakeside living is more than a way of life. They’ve been married here, some have had their children here, they even want their ashes scattered here.

May 2-4 is more than a summer ritual. It’s the celebration of those things many cottagers hold dear. Family memories.

Whether large or small, cottages on lakes, rivers, ponds and deep in the woods evoke something within us. We seek that generational bridge that brings the family together with a sense of common purpose and enjoyment.

This week we’re bringing to market a wonderful Lake Rosseau property that for someone will become an icon of family memories. It already is for the people who are sadly leaving the lake for the last time. Edgewater is ready for a new family of kids and grandkids. With more than 340′ of sunset facing shore, it’s prime property that ticks all the boxes of a Big 3, year round waterfront cottage. Let us know if you’d like information about Edgewater. It comes to market later today.
