The August long weekend. Civic Holiday (Simcoe Day in Toronto). High noon of the summer season is upon us. In Muskoka and cottage country in general, cottagers take an extra day or two to extend the weekend. It’s a time for friends, family and fun.

Walker’s Point has held a corn roast for decades on this weekend, Bracebridge celebrates with midnight madness on Friday (always fun!), Northern Lights Steel Orchestra is playing in the bandshell Thursday as a warm up, Sawdust City in Gravenhurst will be hopping with its music festival. Saturday is craft beer day in Annie Williams Park (more hops), Muskoka Steamships have a music cruise this weekend, there may be fireworks at Gravenhurst Wharf if the Fire Marshal lifts the fire ban (man, it’s dry) and the list goes on.

Whether you’re hanging in Huntsville, Baysville, Port Sydney or around the big lakes, it’s a weekend of fun in town and on the water. Whatever you’re doing, please check your local fire regs. Bans are in place throughout cottage country. Each municipality has its own rules. This may not be the weekend for s’mores around the fire pit. Be careful and respectful. Our forests are like tinder.

Dock time will be well earned this weekend! Come early and stay late. The water’s warm and the people friendly. Muskoka’s a great place to recreate, it’s a great place to live!
