Spring is here. Two days of rain have pretty much put paid to snow in cottage country. Even though snow fell on Monday, it was gone by afternoon. Remnants of winter hide in the shade. Only where snow banks were created or snow fell in hollows or on the north slope does it still have its icy grip. That grip is loosening.

How do we know? The water level of Lake Muskoka has risen about a foot in the last couple of days. That trickle we talked about last week? Local waterfalls are beginning to roar. Rosseau Falls, Wilson’s Falls and Bracebridge Falls can be heard before they are seen. We’re some time from the peak, but it’s clear, the Muskoka watershed is shedding!

The rain also firmed up our country roads. They’re not without some soft spots, but travel is less precarious and more reliable. And yes, you can count on your vehicle needing a bath after visiting!

This past week we’ve seen several strong sales. It’s clear cottage country is more than a destination.
