August Civic Holiday. The hump day of summer. This year towns and villages of cottage country were fairly humming compared to last year. Parking spaces were hard to find and some businesses had appropriately distanced line ups outside. After more than a year of quiet, the return of commerce to these seasonal enterprises was a breath of needed oxygen. Retail in seasonal communities is tough at the best of times.

Although Canada is performing well relative to other G7 countries, we’re far from done with COVID. Delta is making its rounds. On Monday a summer camp in Muskoka discovered COVID among its campers. It’s quite possible more camps could follow. Distancing still reigns as a practical support to vaccine. Tugs of War will have to wait for safer times.

For 18 months we have been showing property by observing COVID protocols. Continuing the practice makes sense. One home inspector we know is not vaccinated and he rarely masks. Although he’s one of the best, we cannot take the risk and recommend him to clients. Continuing safe practices is essential until this virus is no worse than other viruses defeated by science. Risking the health of our clients is unconscionable.
