In usual years the waterfront recreational marketplace enters hibernation about now. Cold, winds and driving rain are enough to dampen interest and drive, with potential buyers shelving cottage dreams until spring.

Unusual years, by definition, don’t come around very often. This year is one of those. Fuelled by Coronavirus and the realization ‘working from home’ can mean working from anywhere the Internet reaches, people are taking to cold rain like ducks to water. The cottage market is still busy.

This past weekend our own listings were visited almost a dozen times. Other properties were having their doors shown off. In a couple of cases the offerings were so interesting, people were lined up to view.

In this market and this time, don’t pause if you see something you like. If you do, it will be gone.

Just be sure you know what you’re looking at. Understand the state of the septic system, check the foundation, keep an eye out for water seepage, both in the lower level and from the roof. Harsh winters can affect building integrity. Questions? Let us know! We’ve been cottaging for decades…

Take a look at what’s happened in the last week…
