The Holidays.🎁 The Holidays are upon us. Whether you mark their coming, as our American cousins do, with Thanksgiving🦃, begin being in a festive mood with 🏴Black Friday or Cyber Monday🛍️ (now celebrated on both sides of the Atlantic) or consider the more ancient traditions of Chanukkah🕎 or Advent🕯️, and more recently Kwanzaa, the time of year is festive🎉. Sparkling lights💡, decorations🎄, smiling faces😷 (behind masks) and expectant children 🎅 are all part of what makes this time of year special.

Nature❄️ helps sometimes too. This year we’ve already had lake effect snow❄️. There have been a few days where, what I call, ‘the icing sugar effect’❄️ has greeted us in the morning. Very pretty but more of a signal of what is to come. This week will see snowfall🌨️ in excess of 5 cm midweek. Chances of having a green 🎄Christmas in Muskoka this year are slim.

That said, it’s a perfect time to gather around a fire🔥, whether that be outside on a clear night to watch the heavens🌠🌌 reflect our festive mood, or inside with hot chocolate☕ and seasonal tunes🎶 in the background. The joy of family and friends (in small measure) reminds us of the importance of gathering to mark the passing of another year and the hopes we have for the coming one.🍾🥂

The 🏠cottage market was on a tear this year. Values increased across the board in every range. Although not stopped entirely, trading has slowed to a trickle as snow and ice cover the land and waterscape💦 as well as impede access🛶.
