Given the weather we started the week with and the number of vehicles exploring ditch depth, it’s hard to think that ‘ice out’ has been happening earlier on average over the last 130 years.
Fortunately this week’s reversion to winter did not lead to serious injury here. But it did raise some heads to think about when spring will happen. There’s still more than a foot of ice on the big lakes and contractors are using their winter ice roads to finish off island projects before the thaw.
In some years, the lakes are already open by now. On average, this is The Week. Not this year! A lunch guest yesterday thought it would be well into May before we have fully open lakes in 2019, maybe even a record ….
That hasn’t stopped buyers though. There are plenty of listings coming to market and sales are happening at a steady pace. There were two properties in particular, one on Hillman Lake, the other on Chub, selling inside of a couple of days. The calls and emails about these two properties would indicate they could sell many times over.
