MarketWATCH Muskoka: March 20, 2019

The last couple of weeks have cleared snow from sidewalks, driveways and lawns in most of the Golden Horseshoe. We were there on Sunday and heard robins singing. Definitely early spring in the city! Cottage Country is more like late winter. Snowbanks abound. Last week’s rain has turned those hills into ice. Many roadways are rutted with ice and suspensions are working very hard to get down the road.

We had a call to show property this weekend. The private road had not been cleared. It was unpassable to cars. The ice was too hard to accommodate snowshoes. Crampons would’ve been best, but we didn’t have any. The showing had to be rescheduled.

Spring hopes are eternal, though. This Thursday the Cottage Life Show begins in Toronto. It’s a week or two earlier than usual. Turnout, if typical, will be 40+ thousand hopeful cottagers reaching for summer by the lake. Don’t look for us at the show, we’ll be showing accessible property. Following on from our last Marketwatch, we promised more information about what your money will buy. Last time we looked at starter cottages in Parry Sound, Muskoka and Haliburton. We defined starters as cottages with 3 bedrooms, 1 bath and between 90-125′ of lakefront on mainland. This is the table we created to help get an overview of values in the areas we serve:
