Although we’re still ‘making ice’ (it was -14C last night), we’re expecting above freezing highs for the last half of the week. Snow and ice are slowly disappearing. We have to be patient. Spring is on its way! Slower is better….
It’s kind of like buying a cottage. You have to be patient. The right one will come along. When it does, you have to act. Last year we were working with a couple with 3 daughters. Lovely people. First time cottagers, they were on a learning curve. I’m not sure how many properties we saw together. It was quite a few. There was even one place we went back to 3 times, but it wasn’t right.
In the meantime, I learned a lot about what they liked and how they live. It was time well spent. I call it ‘learning to look at the world through their eyes’.
Last Thursday one of Lucy’s clients indicated they wanted to sell. They have a sweet place with tasteful renovations. Friday we did some homework on the property to understand potential value. Saturday morning we photographed it and confirmed our hypotheses about value. Seeing the property reminded me of that couple from last year with the 3 daughters. It ticked most of their boxes. I sent pics and they came up Saturday afternoon. Sunday they concluded a conditional purchase.
It all started by asking questions. They wanted to learn about cottages, I wanted to learn about them. Today they’re excited. It’s going to be a great summer for their girls!
Although we still have to wear boots to get around, and some roads are pretty soft, it’s worth getting out to check on properties that interest you. If they interest you, you can be sure they’ll interest someone else too!
