We were in the city yesterday. What a change! The day before we were showing property in the northern reaches of our trading area. While the city trees are budding and crocuses blooming, we were wading through hip deep snow in an unplowed driveway. Because it was warmer, snow was soft and no longer held the weight of those trying to walk on it.

Ever had a freezer before? That’s like a soaker only instead of water, your boots fill with corn snow. You can only laugh!

Here in central/south Muskoka, much of the snow has retreated. Remnants are snow banks, forest floor and shady areas. Showing property is more civilized. Boots are still needed, but freezers rarely happen, of course the lakes ARE still frozen. In many places ice is still a foot thick. Forecasted rains are making a dent. Local waterfalls are turning up the volume, not yet a roar and hungry animals are looking for exposed plant life. It’s been a long winter and finding food is work.

5 deer, with their heads down and ears back, were trudging in the rain across ice to find open ground on the island opposite. No umbrellas and no boots. Cold and wet. Hunger trumps comfort. Fresh sprouts are beginning. They’ll be happy soon!

Happy, too, are some early birds. We bought our first cottage one March day years ago. It was a good buy. There’s something about getting a jump on things. That said it’s getting busier each day as people are beginning to come up to see property midweek. The next few weeks are intense. New listings and buyers wanting a cottage for the summer. If you’re coming up, plan ahead. It’s important to book showings in advance, otherwise, for some properties it’s difficult to get in to see them. No time left!

Take a look at what’s happened this week. Questions? Call us! Want to see something? We’ll book it for you.
