There are times during the off season when passing through Port Carling has to be done with care. It’s deer territory. In fact, on one occasion we counted 11 beauties congregated on Medora Street near Turtle Jack’s in the winter. They force you to ‘drive slow’.

Yesterday, coming into town from Milford Bay, I noticed one of the long standing billboards (which years ago touted Rebecca’s Restaurant) had been made over to a deer crossing sign. It seems they cross to the cemetery from Silver Lake in spring to enjoy some of the newly sprouting flowers and help the Town mow the lawn.

It won’t be long, though, before their blazen display of white tails will only be seen at dawn or dusk. It was harder finding a parking spot yesterday. Recreators and summer residents are noticeable. Like deer in winter, I saw a group of them on the main drag by the LCBO! The locks were open and a bow rider was waiting to go south. The great migration is underway!

On the cottage front listings are coming to market daily on lakes big and small. There were two of note last week. A real beauty at over $14 million on Rosseau and a lovely traditional cottage compound on Acton Island at $4 million. They both sold in a day and at over ask.
