This past week we’ve been out most days showing property. If you’ve ever looked at Muskoka cottage property, you know most of it has a compromise or two. The question is which compromise you’re willing to accept?
Lately we’ve been working with people who seem to want beach. As far as the larger lakes in these parts go, with the exception of Lake of Bays, about 5% of the shoreline is sandy. Given the lakes were carved out by retreating glaciers, it’s pretty easy to understand why there’s so much rock around here. Beach is generally hard to come by.
We have two listings with beach. Lots of beach. The comment we get most often is ‘it’s too shallow’. Hard to figure that one! If the water got deep quickly, there wouldn’t be sand – it would slide to the depths.
Think of it this way … If the land is level (and lots of people like level land) the landform usually continues into the lake. Therefore the bottom’s level and that means shallow. Conversely, if the land has a slope, then it’s fair to say that slope will continue into the lake and the water will get deeper more quickly than level land. Want deep water? Then a slope in the land is pretty much a prerequisite. That means no beach.
