When asked about what they like about being at the cottage, peoples’ answers vary. For some, cottage life is about dock time. There are many who enjoy the water – whether they’re looking at it, playing in it, boating on it or the sound of it, water is central to a lot of cottage life.
Others like the wildlife. In fact, just last night outside the bedroom window, a pair of young bucks, their antlers still wrapped in velvet, were munching on wild apples fallen from the tree. This morning it was obvious one of them decided to sleep over. The still warm, trampled grasses gave off a slightly wild scent.
Aside from fires (which are now off limits due to dry conditions) one of the nicest activities at this time of the year is the night sky. Torrance Barrens is a great place to watch the upcoming meteor showers. Another great place is in the boat on a clear, moonless night. Gentle rocking and soft lapping of waves against the hull give a sense of connectedness to the planet while eyes and mind explore the solar system and galaxy backdrop.
